Pirate testing - computer games
I had the consultants play with the games that have been created in Ag Comm today. They played in groups of 2 and then had to fill out a paper evaluation on each game. I also asked them to write an answer on the back of the evaluation to the following 2 questions: 1) Would you play this game at home? Why or Why not? 2) Would you play this game at school? Why or why not? I thought a little extra input would be good.
The consultants enjoyed playing the games. They did not complain at all about having to play educational games, and overall the evaluations were pretty good.
We worked a little on the game design activity, which they decided to do in a group rather than individually. Between Rachel and I, we decided to have them design an educational Spelling game for 1st and 2nd graders. Amongst themselves, they assigned tasks for homework so I think that they should easily get it into PowerPoint tomorrow.
The consultants toured the Multimedia Studio and participated in testing of the Pirate game. They really enjoyed that and talked about it for quite a while afterwards. I think that it was a great idea to play computer games that are created in Ag Comm before we tour because I think it adds an association or recognition factor. Pam showed the consultants the original storyboard of the Pirates game and I think that is great because it illustrates to the consultants that a game begins as a storyboard. I am finding that when I explain a game design activity, the consultants are actually wanting to design it on the computer and seem disappointed that it is only a paper activity.
I had originally planned to continue with the typologies assignment that I assigned for homework, however there was not time for that and open game play. I feel that open game play at the end is essential so that the consultants end their day with a relaxed and fun activity. I will work the typologies assignment into the schedule tomorrow. During open game play, I had the consultants answer the video closet question and the blog question.
