Instead of having the consultants just give presentations, I'm giving them a template. Yesterday and today, I gave them a 6 slide presentation with title of the game, description of the game, overview of the 3 things that made the game fun, and then one slide each for each of the 3 things, with more details, and then a closing slide that gave advice on taking what was fun and moving it to another game.
The presentation approach was good... it caused them to be more thoughtful. It also highlighted two key issues: inability to think in an organized structure, and weakness in moving from concrete to abstract (more on that in the next post).
My goals with this two-week group are to aid their presentation ability. Not just putting in the info, but organizing the presentation. Tre, the 10-year old, had a hard time, but all 4 boys needed help with this. The idea that they would give a general statement (Good graphics), and then 3 points to back it up, was hard. I had them practice. I'm going to have them do another game tomorrow from the same template and see if they get better at organizing their approach.
