Today we met for a half day session. The consultants chose partners at randomly. They also chose the games they played randomly. They did pretty well with this. There was some complaining but I think that has more to do with the age group.
The task was to play the game for a good amount of time, somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes at least. They were then going to as a team, write a script and go into the video closet to record a video game report segment.
Barbara came in to explain how they were going to do this and got them started.
I talked with them as they were playing and asked questions that got them thinking a lot more about the games. This helped them to report on more than the obvious and the 'It sucks' or 'I love it.' I had one pair attempt the script before the rest. They started out really well and then they copied the back of the box.
I decided to pull them all together and go through the writing process together. This really helped them to get the writing done and without so much, "I hate this", "I don't know how", and of course helped them to express a lot more of what they were actually thinking about the game. I think the extra guidance from me and also the interaction amongst eachother really made the writing process work.
Today went well.
