1st week review

What worked this week
- presentations on Thursday was a good atmosphere. It helped kids know that we value their perceptions.
- snacks: they want a soft drink day... good snacks every day
- schedule: 3 hours may not be enough... 4 hours could be good. We could also make 1.5 hour day works... they want to play games... we've allowed
- staffing: one teacher for each day is good
- free play game: push the Internet games (only one of the kids has Internet... they don't seem to think of hte Internet as a gaming place

What we need to work on
- They were unsure about what the game designers wanted... we need to help clarify that more for their tasks. Game designers need to help us with terminology.
- We may be doing "too much" in that we are having higher end discussions... that may not lead to specific feedback for game designers or objectives for kids.

What we hope kids are learning:
- gaming knowledge

Plans for next week:
- take one game at a time in group discussion to review
- Monday: work on Genre discussion... guiding them to complete list of genres
- Video closet: what is your favorite genre? why? what makes a good genre
- written evalaution: internet games (at least 5)

Tuesday:
- blogging about genre game
- general discussion about what makes a game fun
- take one or two genres at a time to discuss: what makes a game fun within that genre
- video closet: nutrition decision

Wednesday:
- one on one consulting with game designers (Matt, Jenny, Barb, Pamela, Eli, Adrien, Jeanne)

Thursday
- Some kind of game design activity

Tasks:
- Barb: set up blogger for kids by Tuesday
- Barb set up game desigers as consultants for Wednesday
- CC: write up genres for stephanie by Monday
- Barb: get microphone for video
- Matt: put screen shots and quesitons together for video closet

Implications for longer sessions:
- take one or two genres a day to review... today is sports with 3-5 examples where everyone plays them
- it is hard to really review some genres because there aren't enough in the E or T range (like, first person shooters)
- kids put their own game review magazine together (either on the computer or w/ crayons, etc.)
